1. Who handmakes your products?

All of byiroiro's items are crocheted, knitted or sewn by me, often at my worktable (which used to be our dining table).

2. Are these your own original designs?

Some are.  For commercial patterns, credit will be given to the pattern designer.  Even designs that are based on a commercial pattern are usually heavily modified by me to cater for our climate & local preferences after rounds of prototype testing.

3. Where do you source your raw materials from?

I try to support local businesses as much as possible, for e.g. I purchase flax yarn & eco-cotton yarn from locally-based shops. Unfortunately, this does increase my cost price since we do not grow or manufacture yarn in Singapore. I am generally picky about the quality of yarn used and would rather work with better yarns, simplifying the making process so as to showcase the yarn better and keep costs low.

4. Why do you only use natural fibres?

This deserves a whole blogpost! Coming soon! For now, suffice to say that I strongly believe that natural fibres allow our skin (our biggest organ) to breathe well and feel better, while being naturally friendlier on our planet.

5. How do I care for the washcloths / sponges?

After each use, make sure you rinse them thoroughly to get rid of residual cleanser or soap suds, which may cause mold & mildew.  Squeeze thoroughly and hang outdoors in a well-ventilated place to dry - the washcloths come with a loop for that purpose, but if you prefer it with no loop or longer loop just contact me!

If the washcloths or sponges do not dry due to humidity, give them a vinegar bath, sun them or put them in the washing machine after a few uses to refresh them - they will come out smelling fresh & clean again! For smaller facial rounds, just pop them in a washing bag to prevent them getting lost.

6. How long do these washcloths / sponges last?

Though they may not look as fluffy & pretty after several uses, they will last at least 3-6 months of daily use. Since these are all natural biodegradable yarn, at the end of their useful life, simply cut them up and put them in the compost.

If you should see some stray ends sticking out, either cut them off or leave them be, they are spare ends that I have tucked in, nothing will become unravelled.

7. How long will you take to make the items?

Depending on the items, I usually aim to mail out each order 5-7 working days after payment is received. If I do need more time, I will send you an update via email. Similarly, if you have something that you need in a hurry, let me know, will definitely try to rush for it.

8. Do you ship internationally & what are your rates?

International shipping will be fulfilled via Singapore Post (Tracked Package), and are based on published rates on www.singpost.com. Delivery time is estimated to be 3 - 14 working days.

International airmail rates (tracked) - up to 500g

  • Zone 1  Malaysia & Brunei S$8.80

  • Zone 2 Countries in Asia & The Pacific (except Australia, Japan & New Zealand) S$15.60

  • Zone 3 Australia, Japan, New Zealand & rest of the world S$20.60

9. How do you ship locally?

Shipping within Singapore is fulfilled by a door-to-door courier such as Ninjavan, Janio, Qxpress etc. Estimated delivery time is 2 - 3 working days. Please ensure you update your contact number in the order so as to facilitate delivery arrangements.

I try to use minimal packaging but to ensure your package arrives safely, some tissue or recycled bubble wrap may be used.

10. Are you available for retail / consignment orders?

Yes! Collaborations are one of my favourite ways to grow. It allows me to create a customised product for my partners, while leveraging on the combined marketing momentum. Plus it's just fun.

11. Do you have a shopfront where I can physically touch & feel your products?

The full range of products is available online, where it is mainly a make-to-order model. A small selection of products are also stocked at retailers below - do check them out if you would like to look-see in person. I would really appreciate your feedback as well as to what you wish to see stocked at these retailers.
